About The Brand

At one point NutriSense we an at-home testing and healthcare service provider. They've transitioned slightly, to now offering wellness support from professional dieticians based on your actual blood sugar data using a a CGM patch and app. A continuous glucose monitor that allows you to access live glucose information on an app through data analysis dashboards.

NutriSense core product however is a care program that is centered on the data provided by a continuous glucose monitor, which measures your blood glucose levels, sending that data to their app for analysis.

*The platform

On the NutriSense website, you can access their care programs and at-home test from the main navigation on all pages. These require a registration process, so its not your typical fast eCommerce website experience.

You have to ‘sign up’ and enroll if you want to access their products, which is a little different from some of the at-home healthcare companies out there who let you buy kits as one-time purchases. Nutrisense offers a care program, so they want you to register even if you want to access the at-home test kits.

This isn’t in any way a negative, your data is safe and you’re registering to be part of a process designed to help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle. These products can be short-term one-time scenarios, but we’d like to think you are considering NutriSense as a longer-term lifestyle management program.

They have a modern app that you use in conjunction with your care program. This includes visualized reports of your glucose monitoring, meal tracking, activity tracking, habit tracking, sleep tracking along with an in-app chat service to your assigned dietician.

What tests

NutriSense is a diet and nutrition support service provider, but they do no longer have at-home health tests available

*Value

The at-home kit prices that NutriSense sells are market standard in terms of cost. They pretty much mirror many of the other competitive at-home testing companies with kits averaging less than $100 for single-function tests. Combo kits are again pretty standard at less than $200.

Their care programs can be as little as $199 per month which includes access to their app, CGM monitors. The nutrition coaching program is $175 per month.

*Test kits

The at-home tests are a mix of dry blood spot tests and saliva tests. So you’re sent a home testing kit with a finger prick device that draws blood for you to dab onto a sheet that you send back for analysis. The saliva test is a small sponge that you wet in your mouth and send back in a test tube for analysis.

The continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a wearable device that stays stuck on the back of your arm and permanently measures your glucose values 24/7 (as long as it is attached to your body) – you may have seen people with diabetes wearing something similar. It's a modern and more effective way of monitoring your glucose levels without daily blood prick testing.

*Other info

You can pay for purchases with HSA or FSA, but currently, health insurance is not accepted as payment for the products or program. Medicare and Medicaid are also not currently accepted.

*Service Quality

NutriSense is a brand focused on promoting health and wellbeing through diet and nutrition with a range of programs and at-home tests that really put the focus back on you. You manage your testing and monitoring with the support of professional dieticians that access your real-life data and make recommendations based on actual test results. With the addition of live glucose monitoring, you can see real-time reports on how your food and nutrition are affecting your wellbeing.

*Buying a test

To buy an at-home test through the website, simply navigate to the ‘lab-testing’ category page, where NutriSense has listed the at-home tests that they sell. They have a small itinerary of tests that are closely related to diet and nutrition, so need for pages and pages of products.

Hit the purchase a lab kit button and you’ll need to fill out a short qualifying form with some basic account registration information and shipping information before you’re sent onto the shopping cart to buy the test.

Similarly, enrolling in one of their care programs is much the same in terms of process. But there’s no immediate pricing available to see on the site. If you are interested in a program,  hand over some short contact information and that will unlock the pricing page where you pick the terms you wish to register for i.e 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months.

*Shipping

Tests are shipped within 1-2 business days of purchase and usually take 3-5 business days to arrive in total. Results are processed within 5-7 working days once the lab receives your samples – although in our experience this process was faster than advertised.

*Taking the test

Most of the at-home lab tests are blood spot samples, which means you’re sent a kit that gives you the facility to extract a small of blood from your finger (yourself) that you dab onto some small card-like material. You’re given a finger prick device in the kit that punctures a very small hole in your finger, its fairly painless, a bit of shock when it clicks into your skin, but otherwise nothing too traumatic.

They also ask for a saliva sample in some of their test kits, which requires the transfer of your salvia fluid from your mouth by chewing a small sponge for a few seconds, that soaks up your fluids. You place that in a small test tube device and sand back to the lab for analysis.

Test kits offer all you need for at-home testing, often with extra tools should some of the collection go wrong. The kits are easy to follow and you’re provided with return packaging to free post the samples back to the lab.

*Results

Results are emailed back to you within 5-7 days of the lab receiving your samples. The at-home test is not part of the healthcare program services that NutriSense offers, they’re an independent process that offers you insights into body functions that might contribute to your dietary health. Results are levels based and not a direct diagnosis of any specific issue, your vitamin levels could be low, or some of your hormone levels could be in an abnormal range, this information helps you pinpoint areas within your general wellness that might need addressing by a professional.

*Test Accuracy

*Labs

NutriSense partners with a CLIA-certified lab network, which means each test meets the federal and state regulatory requirements to conduct tests for diagnostic purposes.

*Tests

The test kits are packed with standard medical grade equipment that almost all at-home testing companies are using to give you a thoroughly professional experience. You’re given everything you need in each test kit to perform a simple collection without any experience.

*The company

NutriSense is a healthcare provider specializing in dietary support programs and glucose monitoring systems. You enroll in a process and gain support from experts in nutrition and dietary wellness. They have supplemented this service by selling separate at-home test kits that might also help you uncover problems related to diet and general nutritional wellness. This streamlined service means your programs are managed with expertise in this field, it means you are working food and diet specialists and not all-round type healthcare professionals.

*People

Our dietitians love working with our members and are passionate about helping them understand how a CGM can fuel them towards attaining their unique health goals.

NutriSense

NutriSense dietitian coaches are trained and specialize in measuring glucose data to optimize your metabolic health.

*How To Buy

*Where to buy

Everything you need to kick off a campaign can be found at the NutriSense website. You have to hand over contact details in order to access the shopping area of the site to buy any of the products – which is a little odd. But it’s a small step in the process and once you filled out the contact form you’re able to access the products and buy a test kit or register with a health program.

*Product categories

NutriSense is a diet and nutrition company, which is quite niche considering all the areas in which you can test these days. Diet does however play a key role in your wellness, so they do sell tests that are linked to your nutritional wellness like your cardiovascular, metabolic, and bone health.

*Products

The testing products a very specifically linked to your metabolic health, they have vitamin test panels, a thyroid test kit and a couple of combo kits that aim to check up on your overall metabolic health in vitamins, cholesterol, HbA1c, insulin and more. These are blood and saliva collection kits that you send back to a lab for analysis and results. They provide information about the levels of biomarkers they are testing and show the ranges at which you fill and if these are normal or abnormal – they do not diagnose any specific conditions.

*The process

  1. Fill out a contact form to access the shopping cart section for each test
  2. Buy the kit you wish to test with
  3. The kits are posted to you discreetly
  4. Take your test and send it back to the lab in the prepaid packaging
  5. Receive your results via email within 5-7 business days

*Further info

At-home testing is an additional product for NutriSense, they’re not specifically a testing company. The core products are either the Nutrition Coaching program or the CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) program, where you enroll in a premium service in order o access the benefits of professional nutrition coaching and real time insights from the glucose levels in your blood.

*Price Range

The programs cost upwards of $200 if you enrol for long periods of time, like 6-12 months. NutriSense advertises that they’re earned well over 10,000 customers in their time, so if that statement is true, then it suggests its fair value for money.

*Standard kits

A single test kit (checking for one condition or one biomarker) is reasonably priced at an average $60. They have some bundled products that check for more than 4 functions again quite reasonably priced averaging at $160 compared with market competitors

*Some Tests

*Metabolic Panels

These tests provide important information about your cardiovascular, metabolic, and bone health. Your nutrition is key in maintaining balance within these areas of your general health and wellness.

*Wellness Testing

These panels provide important information about your body’s general wellness with tests associated with body function linked to your nutritional health.
